A twist with the French Macaron

Ok blog mates, as promised, here is the second part of our latest Outside the Box photo shoot. We decided to take a twist on the traditional french macaron wedding cake and create one in the shape of a lamp shade, naturally. A sleek black cake adorned with perfectly round white french macarons is the center of this clean and modern dessert station. Swanky black tassels and a smart chrome stand give it a nonchalant element of cool. To compliment the macarons, we placed pristine mounds of white meringues on black lacquered platters. An addition of geometric shapes and subtle touches of tulips and protea for color, et voila a sexy dessert bar! Thank you Joseph Matthew Photography for the fantastic photos!

Outside the Box Photo Shoot

Though geometry was never my favorite subject (sorry Mrs. Carrillo), we took the opportunity to embrace the square in this photo shoot. Inspired by a visit to the Viceroy Palm Springs, we got our hands on some mesmerizing geometric patterned fabric, lacquered urns, and mod shaped stands. In the spirit of Kelly Wearstler, we used vibrant orange tulips, chartreuse green cymbidium orchids and bells of Ireland, modern yellow pin cushions, and crisp white lilies. The sleek silhouette of the black boxes is balanced by graceful curves of bright orange tulips. Each of the chiavari chairs were embellished with black crystals and a tulips bouquet for that punch of tangerine. The incredible photos were taken by the talented Joseph Matthew Photography. Lunch with Sylvia Weinstock

A legend, an icon, and a rebel against lasik eye surgery. I speak of the amazing Sylvia Weinstock, who captured my heart the first time I laid eyes on one of her unworldly cakes (and her signature glasses, of course). Before I fully dove into the world of flowers, I was a baker and cake decorator at Michele Coulon Dessertier. When I got the opportunity to decorate a cake with Sylvia at Engage 11, I was glowing with excitement. Being able to be along side a woman that has accomplished so much and is such a role model made the experience of Engage 11 even more unforgettable. Each of her sugar flowers were marvelous and unbelievably detailed. Thank you Sylvia for being so incredible!

It’s less than a week until Engage 11 at the Grand Del Mar, and my zeal is off the charts. After attending Engage 10 in Grand Cayman, my outlook has completely changed. This symposium brings together individuals such as Monique Lhuillier, Slyvia Weinstock, and Marci Blum. It’s an amazing experience to be surrounded by inspiring leaders in the wedding industry. We are lucky enough to be asked to design the florals for the event. Stay tuned for the photos!

Bouquet Photo Shoot at Steele Canyon

Last week, Stacy and Melissa of Sunday Romance asked me to create bouquets for their collaborative photo shoot with Lovey by Isha, Faces of California, and Brooke Hill Makeup. I couldn’t be happier to be a part of their fantastic project. The photo shoot took place at the picturesque Steele Canyon Country Club, along with even more gorgeous muses.

For Kalah, I made a textural nosegay inspired by the purple bearded iris. Pops of royal blue vanda orchids and intensely hued sweet pea complimented the various colors of this magnificent flower. A dramatic bouquet of hanging amaranth, coral ranuculus, blush David Austin roses, and peach tulips were a perfect match for Kristina’s red hair and pale skin. Subtle hints of vintage lace and dangling pearls accent this cascading bouquet’s handle. Carissa’s edgy looks and posh make up naturally paired with this contemporary clutch style bouquet composed of vibrant orange ranuculus, yellow pin cushions, and eye popping tulips. Had a great time ladies!

Rustic Vintage Tabletop Photo Shoot

Nestled in a villa at the rustic Santaluz Country Club, we designed this tabletop to be intimate and comforting. Gnarled grape wood gets a makeover with blush colored blooms and succulents. Textural white lilac, cascading tulips, and David Austin roses look as if they’re growing from the wood. Vintage candelabras and an antique frame perfectly compliment the warm atmosphere. My favorite part, a luxurious throw and plush pillows to get cozy with your husband to be. Thank you Joseph Matthew Photography for the fantastic photos!

Posh Wedding at the W Hotel

The W Hotel stood for ‘winning’ at Carolyn and Canh’s modern and edgy wedding. Her love of all things glamorous and purple were combined with his contemporary eye for a sleek and festive soiree, dripping with details. Let’s start with her bouquet: a clean and chic gathering of white parrot tulips and calla lilies, all hand wired into a jewel encrusted handle. Each of her bridesmaids bouquets showcased a different drop-dead-goregous flowers. My jaw drops every time I lay eyes on these stunning vanda orchids and richly textured black parrot tulips.

If you’ve never been to Beach, rooftop at The W, you must go. The sand filled floor brings the coastal vibe of San Diego to the high-rises of downtown. Contemporary acrylic boxes filled with glasses vessels of submerged orchids and cascading bouquets lined the ceremony aisle. Against a backdrop of sleek chiffon were two acrylic columns, where Carolyn and Canh exchanged their vows. Guests were greeted to an escort card table of intriguing botanical specimens, eclectic vases, and black frames that tried their best show off Clark Little’s amazing print.

The Great Ballroom was illuminated by glowing centerpieces and purple uplighting. Each table was decorated with various vessels of cymbidium orchids, purple calla lilies, and cascading tulips. Swanky black crystals hung from every bouquet, while darling jeweled tassels embellished the votives. It was a delight working with Molly Stark of Tres Chic Affairs. Carolyn’s Purple Bridal Shower

What’s better than drinking champagne with your girls on a Sunday afternoon? Drinking champagne for your bridal shower and being surrounded by all your favorite purple flowers! We kicked off Carolyn’s bridal shower in posh purple fashion, with a chic candy bar station, glamorous crystal details, and darling sugar scrub favors. The ladies sipped their wine around a centerpiece composed of various Spring time bouquets. Stay tuned for Carolyn and Canh’s upcoming wedding photos. I’ll give you a hint…it’s her favorite color.
